Unfortunately there have been times when Harris Tweed has struggled in the market. The
commercial march of numerous new materials such as Gortex(tm) captured huge slices of the
clothing markets where the Tweed had been a strong performer. However it is probable that the
greatest cause of these slumps were due to lack of effective marketing and diversification
strategies rather than any lack in the cloth itself.
Surely words such as prickly, tough, dark, while satisfying the hardy image of Harris Tweed
were not very flattering when the cloth quite suddenly found itself pitted against a flood of
colourful, soft, well engineered materials. But be gone these days! Traveltoys Ltd, along with
